Same'ol Jason

THE PLOT
The usual, bunch of college kids go camping and are all offed by Jason. This time Jason makes a house call to a couple of rich kids vacationing in a mansion nearby.

INETERESTING
I noticed Jason is a very efficient killing machine. I mean nothing escapes him, he is everywhere. Kids run in all directions and he still manages to catch up with them all and kill them in some clever way. If he was a tri-athlete he'd have killer transition times.

The Signal (2007)

TO THE POINT
It promotes itself as a horror but it's really more of sci-fi / dark comedy. I liked it. I felt it was a little long in the middle and then I found out there were 3 directors which explains it. They broke the movie into 3 sections and then patched it together.

Section 1 was probably the best part. It sets up a very story.
Section 2 fumbles it a little, it tried too hard to insert comedy. It was campy and I think a little too long.
Section 3 closed the loop but it was a little confusing because it had a lot of scenes that only take place in characters head. Its a good idea but it just didnt translate well.

THE PLOT
There is a signal disrupting all media. Cell phones and TV output a static sound and some psychedelic visualisation. The signal taps into a part of the brain that makes people act crazy and kill each other. The main characters Maya (Anessa Ramsey) and Rod (Sahr Ngaujah) are in love and their current love state temporally blocks out the signal but they are miles apart and so they must fight thru the crazies to reunite.

Funny Games (2007)

TO THE POINT
A shot by shot remake of the Austrian film with the same title filmed in 1997

In the beginning this movie looks like an experimental film. The kind where the director says lets try keeping the camera rolling and see what happens but nothing happens. There is a lot of that in the beginning but as the pace of this movie speeds up, you kind of feel yourself trying to somehow hold it back.It is a horror film and it is shocking. And like any other horror film you always question the victims action, but you'll find that in this case their actions are probably not that much different then yours. At least I felt like that way.

There is no revenge, there is no heroic moment its all just one bad nightmare with no happy ending.

THE PLOT
Two psychotic kids dressed as if they are going to play tennis go from house to house taking their residents hostage and killing them before moving on to the next house. The properties are huge and most are vacant so there is no one to run for help to or no one to hear the noise and call the police. This story follows a family of three and how they fell victim to these lunatics.

A rocknrollas father, Lenny, has a deal with a rich Russian to pull permits for a real estate development. The Russian lends Lenny a lucky painting but then his son, Johnny, steals it. Lenny s Accountant, Stella (Thandie Newton), sets up robbery job for a gang called the Wild-bunch to steal the Russian's development money... twice. Meanwhile Lenny is looking like he is screwing the Russian for his painting and money so he lets loose his gangster posse to track down Johnny and the wild-bunch but this just stirs up more drama that comes back and bites him in the butt.

WHAT I LEARNED

The Wineville Chicken Coop Murders took place at the Northcott ranch near Wineville in Riverside. After the murders Wineville changed its name to Mira Loma.
Christine Collins and son lived at 210 Avenue 23 Los Angeles, CA. which is now either a condo or apartment units facing the 5 FWY and is 50 miles from Mira Loma, where the murders took place. 50 miles in 1928 is long damn drive.
Changeling folklore definition = an ugly, stupid, or strange child left by fairies in place of a pretty, charming child.

THE PLOT
The movie follows Christine Collins (Angelina Jolie) , a single mother, whose son was kidnapped and murdered in the Wineville Chicken Coop murders. Christine leaves her son home alone while she goes to work. When she returns home, her son is missing. She calls the LAPD who were non responsive. Months later LAPD produces a boy that looks similar and to her son . She pleads with the police to continue to look for her son because the one they gave her is not hers and they put her in the mental hospital. Eventually a preacher (John Malkovich) bails her out and helps her sue the LAPD, fire the chief and captain and save some of the wrongfully incarcerated ladies from the mental hospital and witness the execution of the man that killed her son.

Oddly engaging. This movie is based on a true story but with a happier ending. I read about it online when the police made it public. I did not know the back story but this movie fills in all the gaps with fiction and that's what makes it entertaining.

THE PLOT
Young nurse (Mena Suvari) runs over a transient (Stephen Rea) who gets stuck in the windshield of her car. She drives all the way home and into her garage without anybody noticing. She doesn't want to loose her job or go to jail so she just leaves him there hoping he bleeds to death so she can have her boyfriend go dump the body. But the dude never dies, in fact he somehow manages to wiggle himself out and fight back.

I love those Coen brothers. They film the weirdest shit. It's funny and sad at the same time.

THE PLOT
Chad (Brad Pitt) and friends find a CD full of what appears to be top secret CIA info and so they decide to sell it to the CIA agent it belongs to. Turns out, the CIA ageny was a low level agent and had no sensitive info and so he does not give a damn but he is annoyed at the blackmail attempt and trespassing and so he becomes violent. Meanwhile the CIA agents wife's lover just happens to be sleeping with one of Chads friend, Linda (Frances McDormand), who is pushing for the blackmail so she could get her liposuction. In the end almost everybody either dies or goes loony, if not already, and Linda gets what she wants.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua (2008)

I was skeptical because I dislike chihuahuas but it was surprisingly pretty good. Good story and well filmed. The only gripe I have is that it seem to cast many breeds except my favorite, the Chow chow.

THE PLOT
Pampered Beverly Hills Chihuaha, Chloe (Drew Barrymore), is taken to Mexico by babysitter, Rachel (Piper Perabo), and gets kidnapped by underground dog fighting villains. A German Shepherd, Delgado (Andy Garcia), helps her escape and tries to sneak her back into the U.S..Meanwhile the villains let loose El Diablo (Edward James Olmos) to hunt them down. Eventually the babysitter and the Landscaper rescue her. And The villains are captured thanks to Delgado.

Disappointing. Although there were some very cool scenes, the story overall sucked. It says its based on a true story but I Googled it and it appears to be fiction. It's more like a rip off of the movie Vacancy but with little changes here and there.

WHAT I REALLY DISLIKED
All the bad decisions the main characters made

leaving each other alone when danger is lurking... just stick together dammit!
OK the car was vandalized but it still ran. I would have stayed in the car, put the petal to the metal and ran over the bad guys but I would not leave my car, I'm more dangerous in it.
When the girl left the house the bad guys lost track of her and then she decides to go back inside the house... stupid. I would stay out there till the sun came up for a chance to get them mofos.
The shot gun scene was stupid too, I mean c'mon he was like 10 feet away, he could have waited and looked at the guy before shooting.

I REALLY LIKED
The soundtrack includes Joanna Newsom. I've been listening to her a lot, specially the dance remixes :)

I actually liked part 1 and 2 and I was looking forward to this movie because bad ass Jet Li is in it, but I was let down. This movie was bad, bad acting, bad plot, bad everything.

Rick and Evelyn O'Connell (Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello) are retired. Their Son, All grown up now, finds Chinese mummy's. Chinese military bring these Mummies to life and so the O'Connells to the rescue.

I had to check this out after watching Death Proof. The story seems very deep and complex about a guy who just wants to go home. The visual is simple, haul ass on a 1970 Dodge Challenger and out-run all cops.

THE PLOT
Kowalski (Barry Newman ) is a car delivery driver and his latest job is to drive a 1970 Challenger from Denver to San Francisco, his home. For no apparent reason he refuses to pull over for the cops and so a state wide car chase begins in Denver and then in Nevada and finally gets stopped in California. Nobody knows much about Kowalski but we do get some flash backs of his past, all portray him as an outstanding citizen,former cop, former vet, former pro race car driver and former pro motorcycle driver. The Chase ends in California and so does Kowalski.

This is probably a better book than a movie.... this movie sucked, I was expecting more suspense and action.

Some government super computer, Ariia, Kills Shia Labeoufs twin brother after it went psycho and tried to activate operation guillotine, which is basically to kill all humans. Luckily Shia's brother put a voice and retina scan lock so that the computer could not proceed but the computer apparently has unlimited resources (processing and memory resources) and it hashes out a plan and succeeds at finding and conning the twin, Shia, to visit and break the lock . Fortunately Rosario Dawson is on the job and she puts Ariia out of commission by beating the crap out of it.

Yeah right. Face identification thru a mirror ? It may not be impossible but it is still not scary or thrilling, so what if the computer knows where you are. Soon after the MQ9 Reaper is activated and the movie gets a little more interesting for like 2 min.

I still don't get it, why is getting killed by a one of these electric towers so scary? its freaky if it actually happens but for a computer to actually and accurately kill you with it?... that's just silly.

The least unlikely, a Panda (Jack Black) , is chosen to be the Dragon Warrior, which is like the best warrior in the world. Everybody thinks its a mistake even Panda because he doesn't know a lick of Kung Fu. But then some evil bad ass Tiger, Tai Lung , escapes prison and heads toward town to claim the title of Dragon Warrior. And so Panda trains, in a very unorthodox manner, so much that even his master believes he does not have a chance against Tai Lung . But Panda comes thru and shows of his Dragon warrior skills.

Hard to watch because of all the stupid things the main character does which set up all the drama. But if she didn't act so stupid then maybe she would have avoided all the drama but then there would be no movie.

THE PLOT
Married couple Roy and Jessie (Woody Harrelson, Emily Mortimer) take a trip to China to help out with church project then decide to tour Europe via the train... now that's fine and all but these dummies head toward Russia...and then they make friends with drug smugglers...and then Jessie kills one of the drug smugglers after he tries to get frisky with her ... and then she finds out she is carrying drugs that the smuggler had slipped into her luggage and she now can't get rid of them because someone is always around on the train... all those crazy events land them in the hands of train hijacking police impostors eager to torture tourists that smuggle drugs but these impostor are drug dealers themselves looking for the drug and money stolen by the smugglers Roy and Jessie befriended at the beginning of the movie.

Long and boring movie about nothing. OK it's about something but the point is its so long you forget why the heck you're still watching. I continued to watch not for the story but for the actors, they did a fine job.

THE PLOT
It's like a peek into this dysfunctional family's life's which is really not that interesting but they tried really hard to be. The main premise of the movie is that Brother and Sister, Jon ( Philip Seymour Hoffman) and Wendy (Laura Linney) need to put their Father in a nursing home. Jon gets him a home near his apartment but Wendy is not happy with the facility but she can't do any better. OK so that problem was resolved. Now for the rest of the movie they just yap away, we find out Wendy is a big ol lying, over dramatizing, hypocrite and that Jon is some sort very busy literary professor with love problems. In the end the father dies and nothing else is resolved.

I liked the characters and soundtrack. It has a very subtle message that villains are not villains at all, but just people with different interests.
For example

Lee Carter is introduced as a bully and troublemaker but after friending Will we see an opposite view.
Lee Carters Brother, shown as the abusive big brother but he actually comes through for his brother in the end.
And the Frenchy, all the English kids envy and admire him cus hes the coolest kid they know and so they did as he said, but in the end on the way back home to france we see that he's actually a loser back home becuase all the french kids make fun of him.

THE PLOT
Religious kid, Will Proudfoot (Bill Milner) with wild imagination meets school bully, Lee Carter (Will Poulter) and become friends . Will sees a pirated version of Rambo and creates an imaginary story about him being the son of Rambo looking to rescue Rambo from a scare crow, and they decide to film it so they can submit to a film festival. while filming, other kids want to be part of the production and will becomes popular, meanwhile Lee Carter shy's away from popularity he'd rather go it alone. The friendship is broken because Will would rather make movie with new friends but then Will gets in a accident and all his new friends skip out .Lee carter comes back and saves Wills Life and the friendship is back on.

THE PLOT
Virgil Cole (Ed Harris) and loyal sidekick Everett (Viggo Mortensen) are hired to clean up the town of Appaloosa after Mr. Bragg (Jeremy Irons) kills the sheriff and his helping hands terrorize the town shops and saloons. Virgil Falls in love with Allison French (Renée Zellweger) and wants to settle down . Mr Bragg is arrested and sentenced to death but he hires goons to take Allison hostage so they can exchange her for him. The hostage thing worked and Mr Bragg runs off with the goons and Allison. Virgil and Everett hunt them down and discover Allison had joined them. She apologized and explained herself and Virgil accepted her as she is. When the town pacifies Virgil and Everett usually move on to the next troubled town but Virgil decides to settle down with Allison. Everett don't very much likes how Allison is cheating behind Virgils back and he can't convince Virgil to move on, so he kills her lover and rides off into the sunset hoping he helped Virgil live happily ever after with Allison.

This is one of those WTF movies.... and it has nothing to do with maids.

THE PLOT
Young innocent 17 year old Inga (June 1970 Penthouse Pet Christina Lindberg) visits big sister (Monica Ekman) in a big city in Sweden. Big Sister lives with boyfriend and is very sexually active. They show little sister around town and then set her up with a blind date. The blind date turns into date rape ...but not really. After the rape Inga turns into a nymphomaniac and wants it all the time from this rapist. She goes out with him every night and even sneaks out for some booty call. Meanwhile the Older sister's boyfriend catches on to this promiscuous and ends up tapping that ass too but he gets caught in the act. That's it... after the boyfriend gets caught Inga goes back home where she again acts all innocent and the movie ends.

WHERE THEY WENT WRONG

It was dubbed. It sounded stupid. I didn't even get the option to hear it in sweedish and have English subtitles.
The soundtrack was terrible. The whole movie had the same soft porno song... even dancing to it at the disco.
Whats the message when you put in a rape scene and then have the victim fall in love with the rapist?
I just don't understand how all the guys catch on that she promiscuity. I guess that's why I'm not a ladies man.

Light and fun. Crazy Old people movie.

THE PLOT
In a small fictional Irish town of Tullymore ( actually filmed in Cregneash ) two fun old geezers (Ian Bannen and David Kelly) are obsessed with winning the lottery. They find out somebody in town has won. The town only has a population of 52 people and so they try to figure out who the winner is so they can befriend him and hopefully get some winnings themselves. Unfortunately the winner, Ned Devine, is found dead from the shock of winning and he had signed the lottery ticket so it could not be claimed by anyone but Ned. The two old geezers figure the money should not go to waste and hash out a plan to impersonate Ned Devine and claim the winnings. They needed the towns help to help prove Ned was still alive. All but one agreed to go along with the plan. A crazy old lady refused to participate unless her share was a million pounds. She was on her way to turn them in to the authorities for fraud when she had an unfortunate accident.

Cool look and decent actors but that camera work sucked. I don't like action hiding behind shaky, fast panning camera work.

THE PLOT
Jensen (Jason Statham) gets framed for killing his wife by the evil warden Hennessey (Joan Allen) at a private prison. The prison generates lots of revenue through on demand feeds of a game called death race in which prisoners are given armored cars loaded with weapons to race around a track on Terminal island, whoever wins 5 times goes free and so they kill over wining each race. Jensen was framed because he is a good driver and would be good for the ratings but he figures out who framed him and gets his revenge.

Lots of special effects fun. It was a good movie that left a lot of unanswered questions which is good and bad. Good because it did not feel dumb down but bad because they are a little difficult to decipher.

They say they were made in pairs, who the hell made them?
So every time they are together someone tries to off Hancock, so why does she throw a fridge at him? what is she so mad about.
Why is she more powerful?
Why does Hancock draw eagles and an Adult holding a hand of a child?

THE PLOT
Lonely super human Hancock (Will Smith) finds his opposite sex match who is also super human (Charlize Theron) but when they get together they become regular humans and that's a problem because Hancock has made many enemies that are out to kill him.

The Mist (2007)

A Military project opens up a window into another dimension which allows big blood hungry monsters to roam free in the cover of mist in a small town. The story is told thru the point of view of a local artist (Thomas Jane) who gets stuck in a grocery store with other locals. As days go by everyone in the store becomes more and more restless and crazy... Katrina super dome crazy. and so half dozen decide to take their chances with the monsters then die waiting.

Anaconda 3 (2008)

It starred the Hoff so I had to check it out. It's what you expect from straight to DVD flick, bunch of over actors with a not so great story line.

THE PLOT
So David Hasselhoff is some kind of bad ass Anaconda hunter. He kills the snakes and then sells its parts on the black market. Meanwhile at some laboratory, an anaconda is being genetically enhanced so that it could be used to cure some rich old mans sickness but the darn snake gets spooked and breaks through its enclosure, escapes the lab and starts eating everything in sight. So the rich guy calls all the snake hunters including the Hoff and the hunt begins. The fun part of the movie is how only the lady (Crystal Allen) the laboratory security specialist is the only one that survives while everybody else gets swallowed, decapitated, or shanked by the snake.

I really liked that they showed the snake a lot. Unfortunately that's the only think I liked about this film.

The Happening (2008)

Good Movie bad casting which seems to be the director M. Night Shyamalans problem for the past few years now. Mark Wahlberg just killed it, it was probably worst performance ever. I think he's better at the action flicks than horror thriller.

THE PLOT
People start killing themselves in horrible ways out of the blue in New York. Big cities on the east side are evacuated. High school science teacher Mark Walhberg flees the city with his girlfriend via train but gets stranded in a small town called Filbert,PA. He figures out that the plants are releasing chemicals that make humans kill themselves but only when they are in big groups. As the movie goes on the chemical affects smaller and smaller groups. Eventually the plants stop releasing the chemical and all goes back to normal.

I saw this decades ago and thought I revisit now that I'm documenting what I watch. Plot wise it's not quite as cool as I remember it but the acting is still exceptional.

THE PLOT
A little girl witnesses an Alligator handler get his leg chomped by his pet but instead of freaking out she asks her parent to buy her a baby alligator which they do, she names it Ramon. Later that day the father flushes Ramon down the toilet because he can't stand the smell of its turd. 10 years later the little girl is now some sexy hot shot alligator expert (Robin Riker)and the city has a monster alligator problem. Apparently unbeknown to her, Ramon survived the flush and has grown to a freakish 15 foot long monster. Ramon lives in the sewer and eats dogs and transients but then he eats a cop and so his fellow cop (Robert Forster) tries to flush him out of the sewers for revenge but then looses track of him. Ramon hides in pools and dumpsters and reaps havoc all over town.

If you turn a gator on its back it falls asleep.

L.A. had its own case of alligator problem. We called him Reggie. We eventually captured him and put ass on display at the zoo. Reggie escaped the zoo but we recaptured his ass.

TO THE POINT
I think my expectations were too high. I've see the directors previous movies Night watch and Night watch 2, which had Russian actors and so when he makes a movie with American actors I naturally think everything should be 10 time better, right? well the action was good but the acting and story was kinda lame because it had Russian sensibilities which didn't translate very well.

THE PLOT
There is a secret society of people with special car stunt and gun shooting abilities and who have taken upon themselves to equalize the world by assassinating people that will become evil in the future therefore making the good and evil in the world more proportional. The group is compromised and is no longer just killing evil people,it is killing anyone the leader (Morgan Freeman) thinks should be taken out. Enter Wesley, an accountant (James McAvoy), son of one of the more talented members of the society and potentially one of the most powerful and dangerous member himself only he doesn't know it until Fox (Angelina Jolie) shows him the ropes. The movie has a soap-operaish twist with a very cool action scenes but the action scenes are diluted when it lacks motivation and this movie lost its mojo halfway.

Beautiful Story and beautiful to look at. It's kind of like a more mature never ending story. I really liked it and highly recommend this film.

THE PLOT
In the 1920s in an L.A. hospital a little girl is recovering from a broken arm and meets a stunt actor (Lee Pace) who is recovering from a stunt gone bad. The actor is suicidal and befriends the little girl so he could ask her to get some morphine for him. He tells her an epic story he made up on the spot about 5 men: the Indian, the ex-slave an explosive expert, Charles Darwin and the masked bandit, all wanted revenge from a common enemy, governor Odious.

Old story new look, A very new stylistic look. It has some cool interesting ideas but overall it didn't quite jive.

THE PLOT
Basically a remake of a fist full of dollars which was a remake a Yojimbo. A stranger comes along and finds a town where two gangs are feuding over some un-found treasure and so he sees an opportunity to make money out of the situation but instead ends up helping a lady in distress who gets killed anyway. He gets beat up but then lucky for him he gets help from the famous doubly talented goddess, Bloody Benten (played by Kaori Momoi).

Silly but entertaining.

THE PLOT
Marines are sent to kill all zombies that were accidentally let loose at some laboratory. One of the Marines gets infected but instead of killing himself he runs next door to some illegal underground strip club where he infects one of the strippers, Jenna Jamison. Zombie Jenna Stripped like she never stripped before and soon the rest of the strippers were jealous and also wanted to be zombiefied and so Jenna helps them become Zombies.

Shamron Moore was a favorite of mine. She was mean and considering the part she did an exceptional job.

Paco was another favorite of mine. Mostly because he rolled with the punches. This movie was so racist but he just played along. They had him cleaning after the zombie strippers dinner with a trash can filled with oranges and a Mexican flag hanging from the side so as to insinuate that all Mexicans part time as orange sellers on the street. At the end he kissed a real donkey goodbye and went out in a shootout.

This was hilarious. Jenna Jameson rips her panties off with one hand and shows us golf balls in the other hand and then she sticks them you know where and starts shooting them toward another zombie stripper.

Jonas Ball did an awesome job. Overall The movie was a very interesting re dramatized documentary of the killer of John Lennon.

THE PLOT
Explains why and how Mark David Chapman (Jonas Ball) came to the conclusion that he had to kill John Lennon. It was because of that damn book, Catcher in the Rye.

WHAT I LEARNED

Steve Wiebe loses his job and sets out to break the Donky Kong world record score held by Billy Mitchell for over 2 decades. Steve breaks the record but then has a hard time legitimizing the score, 1st the official score keepers reject his score for fear he tampered with the electrical board and so Steve breaks the record in public but then the defending WR holder , Billy Mitchell, submits a video tape that shows himself breaking another WR but no one questions if the video is authentic. So basically Steve is busting his ass to get his score recognized.

Interesting characters , some great actors and good directing but the story never got that exciting. I mean they had fun and all but I've seen better.

THE PLOT
Successful CEO, Max Hagan (Tom Wilkinson), is in the middle of a bad divorce in which the ex attempts to take ownership of the family house. The house is home to his drug addicted son and handicap sister. He gets kicked out of home by the sheriff on the evening he meets his daughter's (Selma Blair) drug dealing boyfriend Raff (Nick Stahl). Having nowhere to go he hangs out with Raff, he doesn't think highly of him but events throughout the night bring them close and in the end Raff finds a loophole that helps Max keep ownership of his home. In return Max helps Raff with his start up venture.

In the end the he finds the money and hides it, we don't know if keeps it or hands over to his girlfriend.

Yakuza kids kill a couple of kids and their next of kin go looking for revenge but have to take on their Yakuza Parents. One of them, a young college girl who lost her brother, looses her Arm but manages to escape. She ends up at a car repair shop owned by the parents of another kid that was killed. They help her out and hook her up with a machine gun that replaces her lost limb. The rest is gruesome and too cool to explain.

Family fun with great graphics but really long and with silly situations. I like Stephen Chow previous movies way better, Kung Fu Hustle was the bomb.

THE PLOT
Poor single parent Stephen Chow works hard to send his kid to private school and so he has no money for toys. His kid puts up a tantrum but then his father finds a toy in the garbage. The boy discovers the toy is really an alien but does not reveal to anybody else, he just explains it as a high tech toy that can do amazing things. Anyway the movie drags on about the kid getting carried away with the toys special powers, bullies, bad professors and if that's not enough his dad dies but then CJ7,the toy, brings him back to life. Overall pretty silly but the graphics are worth the watch.

Interesting. Helps explain the resentment the middle east has toward the west.

THE PLOT
In the 80's, in the middle of the cold war with Russia, Russia was invading and massacring Afghanistan. We hated the Russians and so we secretly helped the Afghanistan with food and inadequate weapons that couldn't even penetrate armor. After visiting Afghanistan and meeting with the Afghanistan president Texas congressman Charlie Wilson (Tom Hanks) worked the system to further fund the effort from 5 million to a billion dollars. Also he worked out deals with the Israelis to provide better and more modern weapons. After the Russians retreated Charlie Wilson wanted to continue to help by rebuilding Afghanistan but to no avail. Thousands of Afghanistan's were killed, most of the of the population that remained were orphan youngsters who were angry nobody stepped in to help, After all our efforts were secret and we would not acknowledge the extent of our help.

I LEARNED ABOUT:

Joanne Herring (Julia Roberts), She played a big role in helping Afghanistan by bringing it to the attention of Charlie Wilson and setting up meetings and events to advance the help to Afghanistan. According to the movie

she is a direct descendant of George Washington Sister.

Ironically when he gets to the U.S. the only person who is willing to take a chance on him is a Palestinian chick (Emmanuelle Chriqui). He is a success with the ladies and business is good. But there is an evil dude that wants to level the community to build his mall and so he hires redneck goons to start a race war between the Israelis and Palestinians. It doesn't work and he gets his butt kicked oh and Zohan ends up tapping the Palestinian chick.

Well done documentary about a U.S. war crime, torture.

THE PLOT
Dilawar is a taxi driver in a small town in Pakistan, he goes to the big city to work and does not comeback alive. Turns out local police framed him on an American bombing so they can claim a cash reward. And so Dilawar is sent to the Bagram prison and is brutally tortured to death. He is the first victim of the Rumsfeld debacle that spread from Guantanamo to the middle east and finally exposed in Abu Graib. You see Rumsfeld authorized torture to one detainee that was supposed to be on board one of the airplanes in 9/11, Muhammed Al Qahtani. The interrogation procedures spread and mutated across the world via email and used on prisoners outside Guantanamo Bay. The most messed up part is that most of these detainees are innocent. Most detainees are turned in by local police for handsome rewards and most of the time they just want the money, they don't care if they got the right person and such was the case with Dilawar. He was the first victim to the U.S. torture, an illegal war crime, and yet we never mention him on the news. Bottom line, these prisons are a ticking time bomb for all future U.S. terrorists.

I've never seen an Ed Wood movie until now. Given his reputation I was expecting the worst and I was pleasantly surprised. I totally get where he was coming from. I understand he did what what he had to with the budget and I've see worst results.

THE PLOT
Have you heard of the Loch Ness monster? Well in the swamps of some hick town near a lake there lives a Loch Ness monster that looks like an octopus and it is responsible for 12 deaths. Cops haven't got a clue whats going on until a reporter lady goes out to the swamp herself to investigate. She crashes her vehicle and is saved by Lobo, the evil scientists assistant (Bela Lugosi). Lobo is a big Samoan but every body calls him a monster. Bela decides to experiment on the reporter lady and then Lobo saves her and straps Bela and performs the evil experiment on him instead. The experiment is successful and Bela becomes a superhuman, he is bullet proof and has the strength to man-handle Lobo but alas his own Loch Ness monster strangles him to death... the end.

A long Over dramatic witch movie. Some cool gore scenes and of course there was also some Italian nudity, whats a scary movie without some nudity?

THE PLOT
A coffin is dug up in front of church which contains an evil urn and a shirt. Yes a shirt. The shirt restores the powers of a fallen witch. A museum curator (Asia Argento) inadvertently helps with this restoration deed and coincidently she turns out to be a daughter of a good witch and has the power to stop the evil witch. The plot drags on over useless details like which apartment is safest to sleep in, who to visit for help only to find out they can't help and pointless violence in and around the streets of Rome. In the end all she had to do is take the sexy witches shirt off, expose her beautiful breasts and then burn the shirt, the end.

My favorite parts of the movie is when they actually show Rome. I like to see places I've visited incorporated in to movies. Here is the Castle Sant'Angelo which used to be linked to the Vatican via and underground tunnel.

This movie is long as hell. It has a cool western look but that Mexican with the Italian accent and the length of the movie kinda kills it. I'm pretty sure that the Mexicans accent was used by Al Pacino in Scarface.

THE PLOT
Mexican (Rod Steiger) teams up with Irish man (James Coburn) to rob the biggest bank in Mexico, the Mesa Verde Bank, but end up fighting and leading the Mexican revolution.

Hard to believe it happened but apparently it was a true event. It's a downer of a film so keep away unless you feel in the mood.

THE PLOT
Based on a true events, Baniszewski vs. The State Of Indiana 1966. Circus folks need to go away and so they leave their teenage daughters, Ellen Page and Hayley McFarland, in the care of fellow church lady, Gertrude Baniszewski (Catherine Keener). Turns out the church lady is crazy and punishes Ellen Page to death. The story is told from the point of view of the witness testimonies.

Steroids are synthetic versions of hormones that your body produces naturally.

Cordazone is a steroid that signals the body to break down inflammation
Birth control are steroids, they are femail sex hormone estrogen and progesterone

Excellent classic. I heard it was good and so i was expecting it to be and I was satisfied. It's a light comedic feel good about life and sympathize with the crazies kind of movie with a unexpected twist at the end. In fact the twist is so good that I think its one of the best ever.

THE PLOT
Jack Nicholson is incarcerated for statutory rape of a 15 year old girl going on 35 and a few assaults. He has 65 days to go but he doesn't want to spend it in prison and so he pretends to be crazy and is sent to a crazy house for evaluation where he convinces the head nurse and so he is committed. Now he's got 2 problems 1) he gets to know the crazies he lives with and develops a liking to them and 2) He is stuck there until the nurse releases him which will be longer then the 65 days had left and so he plans his escape but shit happens... see the movie.

Seriously, I just wanted to see Jessica Alba and I had no expectations but the movie actually surprised me. It slowly turned from a general love bad situation movie to a conspiracy thriller with no way out for the Hero. So yeah it was cool.

THE PLOT
Filthy rich mamas boy with a heart condition (Hayden Christensen) falls in love with secretary (Jessica Alba). He marries within a year and is called in when a donor heart is available. At the time of the operation he suffers anesthetic awareness which means he can feel and hear everything but can't move and thats when he discovers the doctors and his new wife are all out to kill him as he lies helpless. Luckily his mama is not so trusting and so when she pieces it all together she calls her doctor and gives instructions to save her son with her heart after she kills herself.

But the owners of the safe deposit boxes go berserk and hunts and kill all of them except for the hero he still has the pictures and knows karate so he was able to talk his way out getting killed sometime , though not enough, it meant his roundhouse kicks had to the talking.

Generic modern group of friends on vacation thriller. Along the same line as the movie Turista only this one involves a supernatural plant that eats people but not in any aggressive manner, it basically just waits for you to die or tries to seed itself inside your body and grow within you.

THE PLOT
Two couples on their last day in Mexico want to visit a pyramid that is off the beaten path. The trek was brought to their attention by a German fellow who was headed there to visit his archaeologist brother. So they set out and when they reach the pyramid they are immediately surrounded by natives who kill one of their friends. I don't know why the natives did not kill the rest when they had the chance but as it happen to be tourist head up the pyramid for cover. Once at the top the plot unravels, they figure out the pyramid is covered in a plant, a vine, that eats people and the natives seem to be trying to contain this plant by salting the ground and killing anyone that comes into contact with it. So the tourists are stuck and one by one they die. The last couple standing try to get a way by creating a diversion in which he gets killed by the natives and she runs successfully to the Jeep only to black out when the vine is seen swimming inside her forehead.

Escape from jail, get high and ride a cheetah toward white castle only to find out cheetah went the wrong way.

WOW ! this movie is what I think all romantic/light comedy movies should be like. This movie just flows at a good pace with a well written very articulate story with interesting characters. I really liked it, its now my favorite and I highly recommend it.

Ben willis (Sean Biggerstaff) describes the process of a break up and the recovery of a break up. Apparently when you break up you have a massive amount of time that needs to be filled and so Ben takes up a night shift job at a supermarket where he meets some interesting characters and his next love.

Some good stuff but too long and plot and style is nothing new... too many borrowed scenes i.e. Mad Max Road Warrior, 28 weeks later, Resident Evil, the Warriors and even Gladiator scenes.

THE PLOT
Scotland gets hit with a virus and so the government builds a wall around half the country to quarantine the infection. 25 years later satellites show people are still alive in the quarantine area and so a team headed by Rhona Mitra is dispatched to retrieve a survivor to study and hopefully extract a cure. When the team arrives however they encounter a gang of carnivorous punk hooligans that kill and torture them, somehow Rhona Mitra manages to escape the city and to the rural country where she then battles the old timers a la Gladiator style and finally she escapes that scene on a Bentley which has actions scenes that are exact duplicate of Mad Max the Road Warrior.

Very cool horror/thrilla with an artsy finish. It's kind of like the Thing and Residential evil, it involves a virus like agent that effects peoples behavior. But unlike the two fore mentioned movies this movie does not show you the thing or the virus. Its is an invisible sour gas which is release by melting tundra which is caused by global warming, this makes it a more realistic horror plot.

THE PLOT
Oil engineer crew led by Hellboy himself (Ron Perlman ) go up to a very isolated part of the world, the most northern part of the arctic. The plan is to drill for oil and set up logistics but then a sour gas seeps out from beneath the melting tundra which causes hallucinations and violent behavior's among the crew.

His team was eliminated for good but he got a job as a promoter so it was still a happy ending.

Intriguing, I like movies where the same event is replayed from different point of views.

Two brothers plan a robbery of their parents jewelry shop but the plan falls apart when the mother shoots and kills the hired goon and the goon kills her. The rest of the movie analyzes the immediate events before and after the robbery. Basically both brothers are losers and bad with money and so they need to steal money and somehow figure out their parents joint is best because they know the operation very well, the insurance payouts, the employee schedules, etc.

Two cops Max Billings and Ian Jones are out for vengeance after their favorite hooker is beat up and left for dead. Later one of them looses his badge and becomes a bounty hunter and develops the reputation of running around with a shotgun hence the title Shotgun Jones. Turns out the culprit who beats up hookers also runs some illegal operation in Mexico and so Shotgun Jones builds a Humvee ala A-team style and goes down there to take care of biz.

Unfortunately a big monster wants this book and will kill for it but Mr Spiderwicks seals it and charms it to protect it and then some fairies kidnap him. 80 years later some little brats show up with their mother who got dumped by her husband and had nowhere else to go. One of the kids finds and opens the book, this of course alerts the monster and his goblins and so the adventure begins.

Previews are deceiving. I was expecting a remake or upgrade of the movie Quest for Fire (1981). Previews showed mammoths and tigers but the actual movie had very little of that. Also I did not like that they spoke English I know it helped y'all understand whats happening but its cheap and dumb.

THE PLOT
Old lady in a Small village of mammoth hunters predicts the life as they know it will end and a hero will rise to the challenge. Years later a bunch of bandits crash their village and take many as slaves to work on the Pyramids. One hunter goes after his woman and makes many friends a long the way, by the time he reaches the pyramids he has a small army to challenge the bad guys. In the end he saves his woman and live happily ever after

THE PLOT
Basically spoofs the movie 300 and throws in pop culture celebs and other 2007 movie spoofs into the mix.

THE WORST PART

All the Gay jokes. It's cool to do it once but they had so much gay stuff it felt like they were trying to force us to laugh at Gays.
The stupid throw celebs into the pit of death joke. How may times did we have to see that? and how do they fit in to the plot?

A little too dumbed down but still watchable.

THE PLOT
Nicolas Cage's grandfather was a civil war hero for destroying a book that held the directions to the city of gold which the south could have used to win the war. Nobody knows what was in the book until Ed Harris shows up with a partial page that implicates the grandfather as a trader working for the south. Cage then sets out to prove him wrong an so his adventure begins. There is a lot of breaking and entering into very important places like the Buckingham palace, oval office, Mount Vernon and a special section of the library of congress. Eventually they find the city of gold and make a museum out of it.

WHAT I LEARNED

There are actually 3 statues or liberties, one in NY, and 2 smaller ones in Paris France.
Mount Vernon has secrete underground tunnels!?

Looked good, started off well but then it got lost in unwanted drama... I got suckered in to watching because i thought it was all comedy.

THE PLOT
Mr. Fletcher (Danny Glover) leaves Mos Def in charge of his VHS Video rental store while he takes a trip to discover how to save his business. Mos's friend becomes magnified while trying to sabotage the city's electricity and then erases all the VHS when he visits Mos. They remake ghost busters for a loyal customer, her kids loved it and demand more from them. Soon they are remaking Rush Hour 2, Driving Miss Daisy, and Robocop. The customers love it and the business picks up but then the city wants to demolish the building to build condos and the Studio Execs legally force them to stop remaking their films and so the sad drama begins.

High-tech thriller. Very cool.

THE PLOT
Special FBI Agents (Internet hacking division) Jennifer Marsh (Diane Lane) and Griffin Dowd (Colin Hanks) find a website that tortures people according to how many hits the site gets. So the more hits the faster the victim dies. The killer is very tech savvy and virtually untraceable except for the dept of justice super computer which they forbid to use because of big brother spying issues. Like a movies though the killer skips a beat and makes a mistake and gets caught as result but not before offing one FBI agent and almost killing Agent Marsh.

Agent Marsh: he sites IP keeps constantly changing, each new address runs from an exploited server, it's running a mirror of the site. The sites Russian name server uses a low T.T.L so your computer constantly query's the name server records and does how it gives you a new address so consistently.
Agent Griffin:the domain, registrar and name servers are all in Russia and so we have no jurisdiction.

Silly stuff happens but in the end they catch a break when Mike hooks up with one of the Lady skaters.

Banned in China for unnecessary sex scenes but nothing new the USA. This movie is just a lot of drama for a Chinese mamas.

THE PLOT
A married couple from the north (thats were the poor people live apparently) come down to the city of Beijing. The wife get jobs as a foot masseuse and the husband a window washer. During lunch time The wife gets drunk with a friend who was fired, the South Chinese boss runs into her and tries to take sexual advantage with a hint of rape. Her husband passes by washing windows and catches them in the act... and so the drama begins. The husband tries to extort money from her boss then he tries to extort money from the bosses wife but ends up having an affair with her instead. Meanwhile we find out the wife is pregnant and so the boss decides to buy the baby for $100K RBM if he is the father. Turns out the Boss is not the father but the husband forges the birth certificate so he can still sell the baby. The husband later regrets his actions and tries to buy the baby back but to no avail. Finally the movie ends with the wife stealing the money and running away with the baby.

Another surprise. Action packed! DMX sucks but everything else about the movie is pretty cool.

THE PLOT
DMX and his crew are contracted to steal Black diamonds from an L.A. bank. So kind of cool to see L.A. Sights in the background. His employer is killed by another interested party who also kidnaps DMX daughter in order to trade her for the diamonds. Meanwhile Jet Li is also on the hunt for these diamonds, he is a Korean secret service agent and enlightens everybody on the plot which is that the diamonds are really some sort of untraceable synthetic plutonium and a small portion can recreate Hiroshima two times. Jet Li and DMX join forces and take on the bad guys.

INTERESTING
While searching for the diamonds Jet Li finds himself at an underground UFC type match and takes on real life MMA fighters! They don't fight for real but kind of cool they used brand name fighters.

The Walker (2007)

The Synopsis sounds like it would suck but it was surprisingly engaging mystery with great acting and snappy screenplay.

THE PLOT
Carter Page III (Woody Harrelson) is what you call a walker, he accompany s rich old Washington DC politician wifes to events, shopping and sometimes their love affairs. Carter is also a homosexual which can be a pain Washington DC. In one particular outing he and a lady friend, Lynn (Kristin Scott Thomas), visit her lover and find him dead. The murder is reported by Carter to avoid a media sex scandal and so suspicions and a murder mystery arise. Turns out that one of his lady friend's husband was indirectly involved, he was calling the shots trying to shake out Lynn's husband and Carter was just an innocent victim. In the end Only the actual killer gets caught, nothing happens to the dirty republican that ordered the hit.

INTERESTING
Carter is very good at keeping a conversation rolling with the old bats, never an awkward silence always a light story or trivia questions to keep the mood light. One of his trivia questions was which actor portrayed the most Actual USA presidents in a movie?

Fun family movie. Had a little made for TV feel to it but overall it was pretty good.

THE PLOT
Nancy Drew (Emma Roberts) is a small town 16 year old girl who sleuths. She's a regular P.I. and is good and successful at catching the bad guys and solving crimes. She moves to California to solve a celebrity mystery , the case turns out to be a very hazardous but she handles it like a pro.
